Welcome to Cairn Terriers of Heatherridge. We are glad you're visiting and I hope you enjoy seeing our cairn terrier puppies.
I acquired my first AKC registered Cairn Terrier puppy in 2015. I had always kept a cairn mix, and rescued pups as companions, previous to my first girl "Jeralyn". I have greatly enjoyed the process of becoming a breeder of the Cairn Terrier. My wish is to maintain the integrity of the breed with an ongoing commitment to the health, breed standard, and overall well being of the dogs I raise. I began showing my Cairns in 2018 and now have two Champions and three Grand Champions, one of those being my first bred by female, GCH CH Grace Wins of Heatherridge, besides multiple International Champions in my program. I am currently working towards the “Breeder of Merit” status. Over the last few years I have imported two lovely males from Poland in an effort to compliment the American gene pool. I became a member of Cairn Terrier Club of America in 2021.
I strongly support health testing of cairn terriers. My kennel is inspected by AKC and is in full compliance, receiving a perfect score upon the first inspection.
I have a strong background in agriculture. Prior to my start in cairn terriers, I worked with and bred the working Border Collie, as well as other herding breeds for over 25 years. I competed in working field trials and used the dogs in managing our large flock of sheep. I am also a retired pet groomer and have worked in veterinary medicine for over 20 years.
I have seven children and one granddaughter. My husband, Scott Uchtman, hunts and bench shows Bluetick Hounds in UKC and PKC hunts. We enjoy our sports respectively and support each other's goals equally. We currently have a hay/forage production farm, and my husband works in construction and is a talented stone mason.
My hobbies include being a homemaker, gardening, oil painting, horseback riding (we have horses and mules), cookouts with family, a bit of travel, and outdoor activities. I have spent the last year teaching High School for a private school and look forward to the next adventure, whatever that may be!
My breeding program of the cairn terriers starts with happy, healthy adults with sound and proven nutritional support for my cairn terrier puppies optimum health. I feed www.pawtree.com/heatherridge real chicken and sweet potato. All puppies have a health guarantee, are already started on nuvet, and will have had 2 health screenings before they leave our home for their forever home.
The Cairn Terrier is a delightful dog; he is extremely good natured, very cheerful , affectionate and also a very good watch-dog. Distinctly a breed of its own. Rough , unkept, working terrier, rather small, active, with short, sharp fox-like head. The ears erect and pointed: colors various shades of grays and fawn and tinged whites, varying to black. They look what they are, great sportsmen. Cairn Terriers are very affectionate and intelligent and cairn terrier puppies make splendid companions!
